On Tuesday, February 20, a Septa bus that was traveling on Frankford Ave was hit by a tractor-trailer that was turning onto Frankford from Orthodox Street. The accident shut down both streets during the morning rush hour and 15 people were taken to Einstein Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, and the bus driver was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. The cause of the crash is still unknown and police are investigating with the cooperation of Septa.
A 23-year-old woman was driving a van on Broad and Grange around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, February 21. She had her twin sister, another woman, and three young children all under the age of 6 in the van with her when police say at least 5 shots were fired into the driver’s side door. The driver was shot and killed and the van crossed several lanes of traffic before crashing into a building on Old York Road. The other passengers in the vehicle were spared from bullet wounds but were taken to Einstein Medical Center for minor injuries. Police are investigating the event but do not believe that the victim was targeted.
On Monday, February 19, at the intersection of Horsham and North Wales Roads, a pedestrian was struck and killed at around 5:15 am. The roads were shut down for investigation until close to 9:00 am and the victim was declared dead at the scene. Only 15 minutes later at 5:30 am, at Union Street and Garfield Avenue another pedestrian was struck and killed. This accident occurred in Hatfield, Montgomery County, only about 5 miles away from the first accident.
On Wednesday, February 21, a crash involving several trucks occurred on the Northeast Extension in Milford, PA. The crash involved 2 tractor-trailers and 2 box trucks in the northbound lanes between the Lansdale and Quakertown exits. The crash caused miles of backed up traffic as all the northbound lanes needed to be shut down to clear debris and damaged vehicles from the road. The crash occurred around 10:00 am and the roads were reopened and back to normal traffic patterns around 2:30 pm. Some injuries were reported but were not clearly detailed.
