Deadly Accident On The Garden State Parkway

On Tuesday, March 27, a four-car chain reaction crash occurred at the Union Toll Plaza on the Garden State Parkway. One car was traveling northbound when it crashed into the toll booth causing a chain reaction of cars rear-ending one another and causing heavy damage. One of the cars hit another so hard that it spun around completely in the other direction. One car caught fire and the driver had to be rescued by firefighters and taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the 84-year-old woman who was rescued later passed away. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

New Jersey Firefighter Killed In Head-On Collision

A deadly crash took place in Hopewell Township, NJ this week taking the life of a beloved 58-year-old volunteer firefighter who was in route with a relative to pick up a child from school. The firefighter was riding in a vehicle heading southbound along Route 29 and was struck by a dump truck head-on which was heading northbound. The crash resulted in both vehicles and a utility pole catching fire and both the firefighter and his relative, who was driving, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck did not sustain any serious injuries. The crash is currently under investigation.

Death Of Cyclist Prompts New Changes For Philadelphia Streets

Last year a 24-year-old cyclist died when she turned right from Spruce street on to 11th Street and was hit by a garbage truck. An investigation is still taking place into the accident that occurred last year on November 28, but the city of Philadelphia is now considering switching the bike lanes to the left side of the road from Front to 22nd Streets which would make it easier for vehicles to see bikes. Large trucks and other vehicles tend to have a blind spot on the right and it is thought that this could have contributed to the cyclist’s death last year. The proposal will be presented in community meetings on April 4 and 5.
