Greater Philadelphia Area Accident Report: December 27, 2017

In the Greater Philadelphia area accident report for December 27th, we look at two tragic fatal accidents, a Philadelphia police officer faces criminal charges for a drunk driving accident, and the family of a Bucks County murder victim files a wrongful death lawsuit against the perpetrators and their parents.

Elderly Woman Struck And Killed By Vehicle In South Philly

An 83-year-old woman was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle in South Philadelphia on Friday, December 22nd. The accident occurred around 6:22 a.m. near the intersection of 24th Street and Washington Avenue.

Police say that a white Chevy Cruze was traveling eastbound on Washington Ave when the vehicle struck the woman as she was crossing the street. Two vehicles, including the Cruze, remained at the scene of the accident. No charges are expected to be filed.

Drunk Off-Duty Philly Cop Causes Accident, Pulls Gun On Motorist

A Philadelphia Police officer will lose his job and faces multiple criminal charges for a drunk driving incident from Christmas Eve, 2016. The off-duty officer allegedly struck a vehicle while driving under the influence and pointed his service weapon at the other driver when he was confronted. On Wednesday, December 20th, Philadelphia District Attorney Kelley B. Hodge announced that the officer is in custody for the accident. He faces two counts of simple assault, one count of driving under the influence, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.

During the incident, the officer was off-duty and allegedly struck an occupied vehicle before fleeing the scene. The other vehicle followed him, and the occupants reported that he was swerving and struck a concrete median. Eventually, the officer pulled over and refused to show his driving credentials., before pulling his service weapon on the occupants and driving off.

Parents Of Bucks County Murder Victim Sue For Wrongful Death

The parents of one of the four men killed and buried on a farm in Bucks County this summer have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Cosmo DiNardo and Sean Kratz, who have been charged with the murders, along with DiNardo's parents. The quadruple-homicide made national headlines this summer and shook the region. According to the lawsuit, DiNardo's parents were negligent by allowing their son access to a gun and their farm property and equipment, even though they were aware of DiNardo's history of mental illness.

2 Killed In South Jersey Head-On Collision

Two people died after a head-on collision on Christmas Day in South Jersey. The accident happened at around 2:57 p.m. when Hamilton Township police responded to a call on Black Horse Pike, Route 322. According to the investigation, a 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound, and for reasons unknown, crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound 2002 Acura TL. The driver of the Acura and her father, who was in the passenger seat, were brought to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus Trauma Unit for injury treatment. The driver survived, while her father was pronounced dead at the hospital.

MEET OUR MANAGING PARTNER: BRIAN MITTMAN

“I have been working since I was 14. I have probably held at least two dozen different jobs and I’ve seen people injured and hurt. One of the reasons I got involved with disability law is that I have a very good family friend who has been disabled his entire life, and I’ve seen how he’s struggled in order to keep working and try to work. When I was presented with the opportunity to get involved with what’s called “disability law,” I was really thrilled to be able to not only practice being an attorney, but helping other people who really need to know things about what their choices are, what they can do, and what their future may hold.

I am originally from Maple Glen, PA and is a life-long Eagles fan.

I have focused on helping individuals with their workers’ compensation, social security disability and long-term disability claims, as well as obtaining financial security for individuals who have had accidents.

As part of helping workers’ and their families, I have also been active in teaching continuing legal education courses to other attorneys, provide free seminars and webinars to the public on how to protect their rights, and I am active in various organizations such as the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives, the Injured Workers’ Bar Association and the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group.”
