6 People Injured In North Philadelphia SEPTA Bus Accident

Six people were injured when a SEPTA bus got into an accident with another vehicle in North Philadelphia on Friday, October 20th. The accident occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of North 6th and West Berks streets.

The bus driver and all five passengers were brought to Temple University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the other vehicle left the scene for unknown reasons. Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash and why the other driver left the scene.

Philadelphia Jury Awards $15.5 Million To Pedestrian Hit By Drunk Trucker

A Philadelphia jury awarded a $15.5 million verdict to a man who was severely injured by a drunken commercial truck driver. The plaintiff was standing on the side of the road when he was struckcommercial truck by a commercial truck owned by J.B. Hunt and operated by an intoxicated employee. He suffered a shredded diaphragm, a paralyzed right arm, and other injuries which impaired his ability to perform daily tasks on his own.

The jury found J.B. Hunt 40 percent negligent for failing to properly check into their employee's background before hiring him. The drunk driver had a history of DUI, fleeing from police, and was fired from a previous job for failing a drug test. The driver, who is currently in prison for charges related to the accident, was considered 60 percent negligent.

The verdict was divided into $12.2 million for economic damages and pain and suffering, with $3.3 million in loss of consortium damages for the victim's wife.

Hundreds Without Power In Delaware County After Truck Knocks Down Pole, Wires

MEET OUR MANAGING PARTNER: BRIAN MITTMAN

“I have been working since I was 14. I have probably held at least two dozen different jobs and I’ve seen people injured and hurt. One of the reasons I got involved with disability law is that I have a very good family friend who has been disabled his entire life, and I’ve seen how he’s struggled in order to keep working and try to work. When I was presented with the opportunity to get involved with what’s called “disability law,” I was really thrilled to be able to not only practice being an attorney, but helping other people who really need to know things about what their choices are, what they can do, and what their future may hold.

I am originally from Maple Glen, PA and is a life-long Eagles fan.

I have focused on helping individuals with their workers’ compensation, social security disability and long-term disability claims, as well as obtaining financial security for individuals who have had accidents.

As part of helping workers’ and their families, I have also been active in teaching continuing legal education courses to other attorneys, provide free seminars and webinars to the public on how to protect their rights, and I am active in various organizations such as the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives, the Injured Workers’ Bar Association and the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group.”
