On Sunday, January 28, a tow truck driver was struck on the Schuylkill Expressway while assisting a disabled vehicle in Lower Merion Township. The tow truck operator who was 35 died as a result of being hit by the Ford F-150. Police arrested a Philadelphia man who allegedly was driving the vehicle that struck and killed the tow truck driver after a witness reported details to the police. The man was taken into custody.
On Tuesday, February 6, a multi-vehicle car crash occurred at the intersection of Luzerne and G Streets around 7:15 am. The Juniata Park accident involved three vehicles and was so severe that one of the vehicles was pushed on to the sidewalk and into a fence, while another crashed into a building due to impact. There was one serious injury reported and the person was taken to the hospital.
On Thursday, February 8 while millions of people were traveling into the city to view the Eagles Super Bowl Victory Parade, a traffic accident occurred on I-95 in South Philadelphia. The accident occurred around 5:30 am causing morning commuters some problems as it blocked two lanes of traffic. The accident began with a disabled tractor trailer on the southbound side of I-95 off the Walt Whitman bridge before Broad Street. At least two cars crashed into the disabled tractor trailer. The lanes were blocked until just before 7:00 am, and no injuries were reported.
