Weekly Accident Report For August 16th, 2017

This week, we take a look at a few accidents and injuries which occurred in the Philadelphia region.

3 Injured, Dozens Displaced In Northeast Philadelphia Apartment Firephiladelphia skyline

A fire broke out just around 12:30 AM on Tuesday, August 15th at the Canterbury Court apartment complex in Northeast Philadelphia, at Academy Road near Morell Avenue. Firefighters responded to a call within 5 minutes, rescued 50 residents in the building, and rushed the three injury victims to area hospitals. 2 of the injured people were residents, while one firefighter was injured while fighting the blaze. The fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

58-Year-Old Man Falls Into Philadelphia Sinkhole

A Philadelphia man suffered minor injuries to his ankle, wrist, and lower back after falling into an 8-foot sinkhole in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city on Saturday, August 11th. Firefighters responded and rescued the man from the hole.

58-year-old Eugene Clarke said that the sinkhole had been there for about a week and that it been had reported to the Philadelphia Water Department. The Department had set up caution tape and orange cones around the hole, but they had been knocked down by a car. Clarke was worried about children playing in the area potentially falling into the hole, and was attempting to set the cones back up when he fell inside.

The Department responded by setting up more cones and yellow tape, but the hole has still not been repaired. While being interviewed by NBC 10, Clarke wondered why a steel plate had not been placed over the hole. This plate could have prevented accidents and injuries before the repair job was completed.

Driver Crashes Into Montgomery County Pizzeriaphilly skyline and schuykill river

A vehicle crashed into a pizza restaurant in Montgomery County on Saturday, August 11th. The accident occurred at around 10:30 AM at Goodfellas Pizzeria in Abington. The pizzeria is located on Old York Road, which temporarily closed down between Welsh Road and Roy Avenue as a result of the accident. Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash. No injury information has been made available to the public yet.

How Can Victims Of Preventable Accidents Seek Justice?

If you've been injured in an accident caused by someone else, it's important to be aware of your legal right to financial compensation. As members of a community, we all owe it to each other to behave safely and in a way which does not endanger the safety of our neighbors. When someone violates this duty and injures another person, it's important for that injury victim to receive the financial assistance he or she needs while recovering from that injury.

Serious injuries often result in serious financial setbacks. You may be struggling with new medical bills, be forced to miss time from work, and suffer from a variety of setbacks in your personal life as well. Fortunately, there are ways to find financial relief after an injury. A reliable personal injury lawyer can help determine who is legally responsible for your accident and hold them liable for specific damages in civil court.

At Monheit Law, we have lawyers who specialize in all types of personal injury cases. We can help guide you through each step of filing a lawsuit, represent you in court, and secure a fair settlement or verdict on your behalf. To find out more about your options and to begin fighting for the financial compensation you deserve, contact us today for a free consultation.

MEET OUR MANAGING PARTNER: BRIAN MITTMAN

“I have been working since I was 14. I have probably held at least two dozen different jobs and I’ve seen people injured and hurt. One of the reasons I got involved with disability law is that I have a very good family friend who has been disabled his entire life, and I’ve seen how he’s struggled in order to keep working and try to work. When I was presented with the opportunity to get involved with what’s called “disability law,” I was really thrilled to be able to not only practice being an attorney, but helping other people who really need to know things about what their choices are, what they can do, and what their future may hold.

I am originally from Maple Glen, PA and is a life-long Eagles fan.

I have focused on helping individuals with their workers’ compensation, social security disability and long-term disability claims, as well as obtaining financial security for individuals who have had accidents.

As part of helping workers’ and their families, I have also been active in teaching continuing legal education courses to other attorneys, provide free seminars and webinars to the public on how to protect their rights, and I am active in various organizations such as the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives, the Injured Workers’ Bar Association and the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group.”
