Gastric Bypass Surgery - Defective Staples and Lap Bands

Lap Band Surgery Dangers: Do You Need a Lap Band Lawyer for Weight Loss Surgery Injury?

If you believe seemingly convincing television and print advertising, lap band weight loss surgery sounds like an overweight person’s dream come true.

The commercials make you want to believe that lap band (also known as gastric band) weight loss surgery is as simple as a Botox injection.

Botox has its risks.

Lap band surgery has far greater risks simply because the surgery is invasive; all surgery is not without risks even minimally invasive surgery as lap band claims to be; and whenever anesthesia is involved – there’s risk involved.

  • One of the greatest risks is that lap band surgery centers are opening at breakneck speed. Who’s staffing them?
  • How much experience do they have performing lap band surgery?
  • Some are even promoting deals. Do you want a bargain basement invasive surgery?

Mega-million dollar pharmaceutical companies like Johnson & Johnson and Allergan are manufacturing the gastric banding which is a silicon band that wraps around your upper stomach (like an internal belt) to prevent you from overeating; thus, you lose weight unless you make it a regular practice to drink rich milkshakes through a straw.

Teams of motivated pharmaceutical representatives are spreading through the cities and suburbs with well-honed sales pitches touting the popularity and tempting the profitability to doctors for offering the services of gastric lap band surgery.

What may prove tempting to doctors is right now some insurance companies are not paying for the procedure so for the right demographic (think cosmetic surgery) it’s cash-based or credit-card based payments. However, as you read this, big pharmaceutical companies aren’t big for nothing -– they are diligently trying to persuade insurance companies to pay for lap band surgery which widens the net of profitable pharmaceutical opportunities.

Are you or a loved one the victim of a lap band surgery gone wrong?

Do you need a medical malpractice law firm by your side to support you and your family during this time of concern and questions?

Please contact The Disability Guys Pennsylvania for your free lap band surgery evaluation so we can determine what your legal options are.

Gastric Bypass Surgery and Lap Band Surgery:
Harmful or Helpful?

The promise of losing weight can be a miracle when it works and a nightmare when it doesn’t.

What is gastric bypass surgery? Gastric bypass surgery involves shrinking the stomach size by sealing off most of the stomach and creating a small, thumb-sized pouch at the top of it, as well as bypassing a length of the small intestine to reduce the amount of calories and nutrients absorbed from food.

Gastric bypass surgery isn't always easy nor is it necessarily safe. Patients die from gastric bypass surgery. About one percent of people die and 20 percent of the patients who live may need additional surgery due to complications.

What is lap band surgery? Laparoscopic gastric banding is the second most common weight loss surgery, after gastric. With the new push from the pharmaceutical giants and the recent growth spurt of lap band clinics, the popularity for lap banding will continue to mount.

Here are some serious to life-threatening problems that can arise from gastric bypass surgery and lap band surgery.

You:

Developed an infection from gastric bypass surgery leaking

Developed serious complications such as clotting, difficult breathing, and/or kidney problems

Experienced excessive pain shortly after your gastric bypass surgery

Developed lap band erosion or lap band slippage

Experienced tubing-related complications

Your doctor:

Failed to immediately respond to your complaints about gastric bypass surgery problems

Failed to monitor your post-operative recovery

Lap Band Surgery is so new that its long-term complications are still unknown. While the lap band surgery is less invasive than gastric bypass surgery there are still risks. Both procedures carry the risks of any surgery -- including infection and, in rare cases, death. The banding approach is relatively new, so it’s unclear how the gastric band will fare inside the body over the long haul.

Some doctors say that patients lose more weight with gastric bypass than lap banding.

Have you or a family member been the victim of gastric bypass surgery complications or lap band surgery complications?

There are so many reasons why. Talk to us about your bad experience; we are good listeners. Your consultation is free and private and you are under no obligation to continue. The Disability Guys Pennsylvania can evaluate what your legal options are.

Gastric Bypass and Gastric Bands Surgical Errors,
Medical Malpractice, and Settlements

Gastric bypass surgery is risky. Surgery on a morbidly obese patient has greater risk.

Gastric bypass operations require the cutting and reconnecting of tissue, problems with the suture or staple line connections can be deadly. Gastrointestinal juice leakages from surgical connections can lead to serious infection, abscess, peritonitis and death.

Any evidence of symptoms that might be caused by a leak must be investigated immediately.

On day two, pain should be lessened. If pain is worse or there’s back pain, left should pain, excessive urination, difficulty breathing or great anxiety – you may have a leak.

The most crucial facet that a doctor and his team can do after gastric bypass surgery is not pay attention to the patient and the patient’s symptoms and complaints. Failure to take the patient’s complaints seriously and act quickly would be considered medical malpractice.

Gastric bypass settlements have occurred following a death caused by leakage, complications from a leak, death from esophageal disruption during gastric bypass surgery, death from a delayed diagnosis of a leak, complications from a vertical banded gastroplasty, and death from infection after gastric bypass surgery are just a few.

While people have a dream of being thinner and healthier, they must also take into consideration the great risks involved in gastric bypass surgery and gastric band surgery.

If you or a loved one has experienced life threatening adverse reactions to gastric bypass or gastric band surgery or a loved one has died, please consult The Disability Guys Pennsylvania to determine what your legal options are regarding a medical malpractice lawsuit.

MEET OUR MANAGING PARTNER: BRIAN MITTMAN

“I have been working since I was 14. I have probably held at least two dozen different jobs and I’ve seen people injured and hurt. One of the reasons I got involved with disability law is that I have a very good family friend who has been disabled his entire life, and I’ve seen how he’s struggled in order to keep working and try to work. When I was presented with the opportunity to get involved with what’s called “disability law,” I was really thrilled to be able to not only practice being an attorney, but helping other people who really need to know things about what their choices are, what they can do, and what their future may hold.

I am originally from Maple Glen, PA and is a life-long Eagles fan.

I have focused on helping individuals with their workers’ compensation, social security disability and long-term disability claims, as well as obtaining financial security for individuals who have had accidents.

As part of helping workers’ and their families, I have also been active in teaching continuing legal education courses to other attorneys, provide free seminars and webinars to the public on how to protect their rights, and I am active in various organizations such as the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives, the Injured Workers’ Bar Association and the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group.”
