Fatal Tractor-Trailer Accident On Northeast Extension

Early Wednesday morning, September 12, a crash occurred in Carbon County on the Northeast Extension. Around 5:30 am a car slammed into a tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the southbound lanes, leaving the car partially trapped underneath the back of the truck. The 30-year-old male driver died at the scene of the accident and the driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with chest pain, according to police. Traffic was blocked in the right lane but vehicles were able to pass by in the left lane.

Car Recovered From North Philadelphia Hit-And-Run

As reported in last week’s accident report, the police are looking for the suspect who hit a 9-year-old girl who was crossing the street last month in North Philadelphia and fled the scene of the accident. The 9-year-old suffered critical injuries due to the accident but is expected to survive. Police reported that they located the vehicle on Monday night at the 5100 block of Hutchinson Street which is close to where the accident occurred. The gold Cadillac SRX Crossover vehicle has a broken grill, hood damage, and possible damage to the windshield on the passenger side. Police are still searching for the driver of the vehicle and asking the public’s assistance.

Settlement Reached For Family Of Cyclist Killed In Philadelphia

Last November, a 24-year-old woman was killed in Center City when she was hit by a trash truck as she biked into work. The trash truck company, Gold Medal Environmental, and the victim’s family have reached a settlement agreement of $6 million in compensatory damages to be paid to the deceased woman’s estate. In addition, the company and the victim’s family have decided to work together to donate $25,000 each year for the next five years towards organizations committed to improving the safety of Philadelphia roads. Gold Medal Environmental has also increased its truck driver safety with new emphasis on urban vehicle operations and interactions with bicyclists. In addition, the company is now including bonuses to employees who have “accident-free driving.” The City of Philadelphia announced last September that it will institute a Vision Zero plan, which aims to eliminate all traffic-related deaths in the city by 2030.
