Spring is finally here, and that means it's time to find ways to spend time outdoors with the family. Our Montgomery County personal injury lawyers think it's important to get away from our television and computer screens and find ways to bond with our kids in the variety of beautiful natural settings this area has to offer. Alverthorpe Park is one of our favorite places to spend summer weekends away from the office. Some of the reasons why we like this park so much include:
Alverthorpe Park is home to a par-3 golf course, along with a miniature golf course during the summertime. We've found that both courses can be enjoyable for the family. You can start by playing mini-golf with your younger kids, and then start teaching them the real game on the par-3 course once they get a little bit older. Kids age 7 and over are permitted to play on the par-3 course, with kids ages 7-13 required to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older.
At Alverthorpe Park, you can enjoy a game of tennis, basketball, baseball, or softball at their athletic facilities. These tennis courts, basketball courts, and fields are open year-round to park guests. If you're playing tennis, you'll need to reserve a court in advance and pay a modest reservation fee for use.
Alverthorpe Park has an excellent, modern playground which your kids are sure to love. Playing here is a great way for your kids and their friends to enjoy time outdoors together, or for your children to make new friends with other kids from the neighborhood.
Alverthorpe Park is also home to Alverthorpe Lake, where you can go fishing if you have a license. You're required to register in advance, but the cost is only $3.50 per season.
During the summer, there is a wading pool where your youngest children can enjoy a refreshing dip. This is located in the pre-school section of the park and open to Abington Township residents ages 5 and under, free of charge. The pool opens in late June and closes following Labor Day weekend.
Alverthorpe Park also features onsite camping, which runs from April 1st through December 1st each year. You can make camping reservations at the Control Building in the park from Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The fee is $15 per site/per night.
If you're looking to host a large gathering, such as a family reunion, the Alverthorpe Park picnic shelter is available for rental. Half-day rentals are $170, while a full day rental is just $200. If you're just looking for a few tables, you can rent them for just $5 per table.
